I am a lifetime resident of the Greater Cleveland area. In fact, my maternal grandmother’s family was one of the founders of St. Paul Lutheran Church and School. I was baptized at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lakewood, Ohio. I grew up along with my two sisters in Rocky River, and I was confirmed at St. Thomas Lutheran Church. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education at Cleveland State University, where my father was Head Wrestling Coach for 36 years. While at CSU, I met my husband John, and we were married at St. Thomas Lutheran Church in 1983. John grew up in Bay Village and is an estate planning attorney.
My first teaching job was at West Park Lutheran School, where I taught 5th and 6th grade for four years. After West Park, I moved on and taught 5th grade for two years in the Bay Village public schools.
When my first son, Jack, was born in 1988, I left teaching to become a full-time stay-at- home mom. My second son, Joey, was born in 1992. I stayed at home a total of ten years before reentering the teaching profession first as a tutor with the Avon public Schools, and then as a 6th – 8th grade language arts teacher at St. Adalbert Catholic School in Berea for three years.
I was hired in 2002 to teach here at St. Paul. I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching middle school and 5th grade English Language Arts to the best students on the planet! I also love coaching the 7th and 8th grade Power of the Pen teams and leading our National Junior Honor Society Chapter. Since graduating from Cleveland State University, I have earned more than 60 postgraduate hours of credit with most of the courses having been in the areas of English/Language Arts Education, while always maintaining a current State of Ohio teaching license.
I reside in Bay Village and enjoy theater, reading, and following ATP Tennis. My sons are grown men now, and I could not be more proud of them. Jack was a National Merit Finalist and Valedictorian of the class of 2007 at Lutheran West. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in English, his Juris Doctorate, and Masters in English from Case Western Reserve University. He is now pursuing a PhD in English.
Joey was a National Merit Finalist and Valedictorian of the class of 2011 at Lutheran West. He earned a Bachelor’s of English and a Bachelor’s of Religious Studies from Case Western Reserve University, and just recently, a Master’s in English also from CWRU.
My two most inspirational Bible verses are Philippians 4:13 : “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” and Psalm 46:10, “Be still and know that I am God.” Both of these verses continue to remind me that God is always in charge, and He is always looking out for me no matter how stressful and worrisome life can become.
