Students have opportunity to participate in other music opportunities like seminars and after school groups. Mrs. Gilbert directs the three bands. Mrs. Konyk offers a Guitar group during or after school. Students also can perform during chapel worship.
Band is directed by Mrs. Rachel Gilbert on Fridays. There are three bands, a beginning band for grade 4, Intermediate Band for grade 5, and Advanced Band for Grades 6-8. All bands are taught during school and include group lessons as well as ensemble practice. Students perform in a variety of events, including chapel, Christmas in the Atrium, Lutheran West city wide events, the St. Paul School music programs*, and the end of year Instrumental Concert*. (*These event dates are on the St. Paul School academic calendar.)
About Mrs. Gilbert: Mrs. Gilbert is the Band Director at Lutheran West High School. She teaches at St. Paul on Fridays. Mrs. Gilbert is a 2009 graduate of Ohio Northern University with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education. She has held membership in Tau Beta Sigma (honorary band service sorority) as well as the Ohio Collegiate Music Educators Association. Mrs. Gilbert has taught all over the Cleveland area and is excited to continue the tradition of musical excellence at St. Paul!
Mrs. Konyk, our technology teacher, has been directing guitar groups since 2002. Students in the guitar groups must have taken enough lessons to know at least the first two strings and/or basic chords. Music will be adapted to abilities. Practices are after school on Mondays and do not interfer with sports. Students perform in a variety of environments, including chapel, church services, and city wide recitals.
